Following the pattern of the New Testament Church in faith and practice.
We understand that visiting a new church can sometimes feel intimidating. At Southville Church of Christ, you will find a warm, welcoming congregation that strives to worship God simply and reverently. Our services are designed to be participatory, encouraging everyone to engage fully in worship.
When you join us for our Sunday service, you will experience congregational singing without the use of mechanical instruments—a practice known as a cappella worship. We believe this beautiful, vocal-led praise aligns with the practices of the early Christian church. You will also hear sincere prayers, partake in the weekly observance of the Lord's Supper (communion), and listen to a lesson drawn directly from the Bible.
Our goal is not to entertain, but to honor God and build up the spiritual lives of those in attendance. We welcome questions and encourage all visitors to stay after service to meet our members.
The foundational principles that guide our understanding of God and the Church.
We often say, "No creed but Christ, no book but the Bible." We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and serves as the sole, sufficient guide for all matters of faith, doctrine, and daily living. We strive to speak where the Bible speaks and remain silent where it is silent.
Following the clear pattern found throughout the New Testament, we practice baptism by full immersion in water. We believe that this act, undertaken by a penitent believer, is the point at which God forgives sins and adds the individual to His church.
In our desire to closely follow the worship practices authorized in the New Testament, our congregational singing is a cappella (without instrumental accompaniment). We believe this emphasizes the participation of every worshipper and the heartfelt expression of praise.
We do not belong to a central denominational hierarchy. Instead, Southville Church of Christ is a self-governing, autonomous congregation. We look solely to Christ as the head of the church, guided by local leadership as outlined in Scripture.
We observe the Lord's Supper every Sunday, just as the early disciples gathered on the first day of the week to break bread. This weekly observance keeps the sacrifice of Jesus Christ at the very center of our worship and our lives.
Our plea is for the unity of all believers based on the teachings of the Bible. We strive to be "Christians only"—not the only Christians, but simply followers of Christ without wearing denominational labels or adhering to human-made creeds.
We invite you to join us at any of our regular gatherings.
